We're nearly at the end of our 12 Days of Favorite Things, and we're rounding things out with another book review plus giveaway.
The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan is full of holiday visuals; it is the perfect book to read while snuggled next to the fire. Or, if you must, pop in those earbuds and listen to it while you run those last-minute holiday errands.
Main character Carmen is a newly-turned-30 Scottish woman. Her sister, featured prominently, is super successful Sofia. Carmen works with her friend Idra at a shabby department store for very little money with a very unpleasant boss. As with many in retail, she is impacted by the changing economy, and loses her job.
The real magic begins when she follows a retail job opportunity to Edinburgh where she takes up residence with her older (pregnant) sister and bunches of nieces and nephews. The sibling rivalry is abundant, and Carmen is full of negativity! However, just when you cannot stand her whininess any longer, she does something promising.
This book will transport you right to Edinburgh and the snowy streets and elegant shops. It's a book-lovers book, and just the right read for these December days.
