Every year, we share a progress update and final evaluation of the year's goals. I frame my annual resolutions based on Gretchen Rubin's Happier podcast. If you're interested in creating a 25 for 2025 list this year, I highly recommend listening to this year's episode on the topic. It's always inspiring!
I realized pretty quickly in reviewing my list that I was either too ambitious or too busy this past year. And I didn't even come up with the full 24 goals! The nice thing about this process is that it's very forgiving. There is no expectation that you could possibly complete them all, and so every achievement is considered to be a success!
Here are a few of the goals from my 2024 list:
Buy less plastic (organizers, egg cartons, etc.)
Play the piano once/month
Update our will
Have a "no buy" month
Take B&W portraits of kids
House updates (add decorative molding, window replacement)
Donate blood
Monthly meal planning
Read two books per month
I accomplished six of my goals this year. Eek. That's definitely the lowest number since I started this process, back in 2020 or so. Rather than dwell on that, I'm going to share a few highlights of the successes.
Read two books per month: Check! This is a repeat every year, and one I know I can accomplish. However, it's important to me, so I like to keep it on the list. I include audiobooks as well.
Have a "no buy" month: I've done this once before, and it's a great exercise in delayed gratification and minimizing unnecessary spending. More about it here.
Monthly meal planning - By far the most impactful achievement of the year was setting a monthly meal plan. It takes about 30 minutes a month and saves time, energy and frustration for the next 30 days. For my sanity, this one is life changing! I highly recommend it.
I'll be back soon with my 25 for 2025.
