Monday Musings: End of Summer

Although it's still pretty warm, I'm ready to close this chapter of the year, and start the fall season. I'm feeling a sense of excitement and eagerness to usher in cooler days, autumn flavors and scents and the overall coziness of fall.

For some, saying good-bye to long summer days can bring melancholy. I feel that as well, but mostly gratitude for a few months of time together as a family, slower days, pool days and beach time on our vacation.

I love these quotes about the end of summer:

“When summer gathers up her robes of glory, And, like a dream, glides away.”

— Sarah Helen Whitman

"“August is like the Sunday of summer.”

— Unknown

"September was a thirty-days long goodbye to summer, to the season that left everybody both happy and weary of the warm, humid weather and the exhausting but thrilling adventures." – Lea Malot

“Alas, summer sun can’t last forever. The days will grow cooler and shorter, and our skin will once again pale.”

— Sarah MacLean

“Summer has always been good to me, even the bittersweet end, with the slanted yellow light.

Paul Monette

“It was that day when the end of summer intersects perfectly with the start of fall.”

— Ann Patchett

Enjoy these final weeks of after dinner walks, warm nights and mosquito bites.
