In this time of Thanksgiving, it is natural to reflect on the many things for which we are thankful. Family, friends, homes and pets come to mind right away, of course. Many other things do seem to pale by comparison. However, I do find it helpful to also reflect on the day-to-day moments that make life rich.
There are so many resources for how to develop a gratitude practice, and I wouldn't even begin to have any expertise in this area. I have found that writing down one thing per week works for me. When I start my day on Monday mornings, I reflect on one moment that went well the prior week. I learned this somewhere, so I cannot take credit!
Here are a few of mine for inspiration:
a winning game
family dinner
a special birthday lunch
solving a problem
a fun party
vacation
a weekend at the pool
Some are large, some are small, but all have made life special for that week. In looking back over the past few years' weekly appreciation, it is clear how special each week is! And for that, I am thankful.
