At the beginning of the year, I shared my goal for 2022 - to be more healthy. My intent was to spend time focusing inward. In the first six months of the year, I’ve done this in some meaningful ways.
For one, I started running regularly at the beginning of January. In February, I decided I would run in my first half-marathon if I could reach six miles consistently at a good pace. I had completed a 15k (9.3 miles) twice before, but it had been more than 6 years since my last one.
I surpassed that goal so in March I officially signed up for the half in late April. As it turns out, I completed the race within my goal time, but more importantly, I truly enjoyed the challenge. My husband and kids cheered me on at three different locations on the course, including the finish line, and it was so awesome. I’m really proud of myself. The training was difficult but it prepared me for race day.
I’ve also invested time in my diet. After not feeling well for several months, especially during my half training, l had a blood test performed. The results show I have significant food sensitivities that are found in common, everyday foods - gluten and eggs to name a few. As a result, I‘ve had to make drastic changes to what I eat. It’s been a challenge, but I feel so much better. I didn’t realize how badly I felt until I changed my diet. It’s inconvenient to have these restrictions, but with a little education and research, it’s doable and worth it.
I’m still trying to get to bed earlier and develop better habits with my workout schedule, but overall I am happy with my progress toward becoming healthier. I hope I can finish the year strong.
How are your 2022 goals coming along?
