After more than two years of blogging, I realized that I have yet to review a book by one of my favorite authors -- Colleen Hoover. I read Colleen's work for the first time in 2014 with Maybe Someday and I loved it! After finishing it, I went back and read her previous books, including her debut Slammed.
Colleen's writing is effortless, the storylines are realistic and her characters are complex and imperfect. What I admire the most about Colleen is her writing story. She self-published her first book, Slammed, and it became a New York Times bestseller. Since then she has had countless best sellers, and in the last couple years her books from five or more years ago have climbed the bestseller lists, including my favorite, It Ends With Us. (The sequel, It Starts With Us, releases in October.) Readers are discovering her all the time and they love her like I do!
Colleen publishes at least one book a year and still chooses to self-publish from time-to-time. It's impressive and inspiring. She has a loyal fanbase that refer to her affectionately as "CoHo" and they devour her books no matter how they make their way to the shelves and on Amazon.
This fall she will release her 24th book. Admittedly, I've not read all of her more recent books, but I can state confidently that her style is unique and fresh. She addresses difficult topics and relationship dynamics. Moreover, she creates complicated love stories, but also dark thrillers. When you pick up one of her books, you know it's going to be good and it's going to be something she's never written about before. As a reader, it's exciting!
Colleen also has a nonprofit, The Bookworm Box, which is an organization that helps independent authors gain exposure through providing books and promoting reading. It donates 100 percent of profits to charities. It's an incredible organization.
I highly recommend Colleen's books. If you aren't sure where to start, go check out the New York Times bestseller list -- she currently has seven books on the Combined Print & E-Book Fiction list and Paperback Trade Fiction!
I'm going to put an end to the drought -- I plan to review one of her books on the blog this next year!
