I've had One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid on my #TBR for some time. In recent years, I've read Jenkins Reid's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising. I enjoyed both and thought I might like this one, too, and I did.
One True Loves' main character, Emma, has a somewhat typical life — she marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse, and they enjoy the early months of marriage by traveling and exploring the world. Then, tragedy strikes the day before their first anniversary — the helicopter Jesse is in goes missing over the Pacific Ocean and he eventually is pronounced dead.
While Emma grieves Jesse's death, she moves back home and works at her parents' bookstore. A few years later while in a music store, she bumps into an old high school friend, Sam. Emma and Sam's relationship blossoms and they fall in love and eventually become engaged.
Then the unthinkable happens and Jesse calls Emma one day. He was found — the sole survivor of the accident. Jesse fought death for years so he could make it back to Emma. Emma is instantly torn between two lives — the past and present. She struggles to figure out what she wants with two men waiting for her decision.
This story is emotional, captivating and sometimes difficult to read. Emma's situation is rare and begs the questions what would you do? Readers experience the raw emotion, torment and hurt this storyline brings to everyone. It feels like there is no right decision when you have two true loves.
