Tuesday Morning Tidy: 12 Months of Tidy - Bathroom Part 2

Earlier this month, I shared how I was updating and maximizing our guest/kids bathroom. That post was on the first of my three-step process:

  1. Serious clear, clean and repair.

  2. Assess how we use the space for making improvements.

  3. Identify ways to maintain it more easily going forward.

I cleaned out the drawers in the bathroom and threw out enough to clear an entire drawer (win!). After scrubbing the tile floors, wiping down walls and cabinets, and fixing the caulk between the tub and shower, I'm moving on to steps 2 and 3.

Assess for Improvements:

When the kids were much younger, we just had one bathmat outside of the tub. It was cute, easily washable and matched the shower curtain.

Now that the kids are older and spending more time getting ready on their own for school, they wanted a second rug at the sink. We also desperately needed a new shower curtain liner (I made a mental note to do this annually going forward). In the end, I picked out a new curtain, liner and two new bathmats to give the space a nice little refresh. The shower curtain makes me very happy every time I walk by!

We also have some word art above the toilet that really needs to go. It's pretty juvenile and we could benefit from some decorative storage instead. I think a dark green shelf would look best with the curtain, but I haven't quite found the right solution. Half the battle is identifying what I'm looking for, so I'll consider this a win!

We also needed a few smaller hooks near the sink to hang washcloths. Their current home on the countertop is both ugly and kind of gross, so I've got some oil rubbed bronze hooks on their way to improve this situation! I'm planning to attach them with command strips so they can be removed if we don't need them in the future.

Maintenance:

In terms of maintenance, there's not a lot to do here. Mostly, this stage involved restocking toiletries and lining the trashcan with bags for the next couple months. I replaced a few dim lightbulbs in the vanity fixture and made sure we've got more on hand. We have toothpaste, soap refills, and backup shampoo ready to go as well.

It was a very busy (and short) month, so I'm glad that I assigned this small, simple space to February.
