Earlier this month, I tackled the first step in the fourth month of my full-house sprucing with the clearing, cleaning and repair of our entry area. This included everything on the front porch into the foyer.
I mopped the floors and repaired the entry dresser with wood filler and stain, then gave it a polish with some mineral spirits. And that's where the progress stalled.
For the first time in this project, the weather made an impact. The constant spring rain prevented me from repairing any cracks or prepping the front porch for paint. This weekend looks promising, so I'm hoping to get started! However, I was able to use the extra few weeks to research a front porch paint that has some texture in it. Honestly, I wish the porch wasn't painted at all, but the previous owner did this when some crack repairs were made. It's hard to maintain and it becomes pretty dangerous when wet. We are hoping the new paint texture helps keep the area from getting so slippery in the rain and ice.
Once I get through painting and repairing the front porch, I'll also sand and repaint the front rocking chair. I do this every few years so it looks nice and prevents wood rot.
Once I get through the repair stage (the most significant step of this month), I need to upgrade the door mat. The current one is faded and too small. With all of the neighborhood kids coming in and out, this will keep the entire entry cleaner.
I've also spent the past several weeks researching lamps for the entry dresser. I moved one out of a different room to test the height, and I determined it should be at least 24" due to the scale of our two-story entrance. I'm leaning toward some of the jug-style lamps that have a hefty ceramic quality and handles on the sides. I'm holding out for the perfect fit, so nothing purchased yet! Here are a few I like:

I'm almost definitely over-thinking this, but shopping for lamps is so much fun!
