Tuesday Morning Tidy: Capsule Wardrobe for this Fall

I'm back in the office, and I'm ready for fall. My summer work wardrobe has always been weaker, and after the last few years, it's looking a little threadbare. Yikes! I'll have to focus on that in about six months before the warm weather rolls back around, but thankfully I have a solid set of fall basics to rely on year after year.

As I mentioned in this post, I'm pretty set on fall and winter staples:

  • Tops - 15, This includes turtlenecks and blouses, a mix of casual and work-appropriate, solids and patterns, but I am most often wearing these (above, first) with a cardigan or vest over.

  • Skirts - 5 (2 camel, black, brown, plaid) My favorite style is the sidewalk skirt from J. Crew Factory.

  • Sweaters - 4 (2 fair isle, black, navy)

  • Cardigans - 5 (black, navy, pink, gray, red) My favorites are this one and this one.

  • Vests - 2 (blue, navy)

  • Sweatshirts and pullovers - 3 (gray, cream/red stripe, blue) My favorite is from L.L. Bean similar to this. (above, second)

  • Work Dress - 2 (black wool, ponte)

  • Blazers - 5 (2 navy, red, black)

  • Jeans - 2, all season (dark wash, medium wash)

  • Corduroys - 1 (gray)

  • Pants - 4 (2 black, tan, navy) My favorite are these.

Last year, I added Rothys square toe black flats and a Dudley Stephens Cobble Hill fleece in black. I've worn them a lot since, and they've both held up well.

J.Crew Factory recently had an amazing sale, and I picked up an oatmeal sweater blazer, so I'm excited to add that to my staples. I had to retire my previous tan blazer due to age and fit. I've had this one in gray for a long time, and it's a regular in my rotation. I know the oatmeal will work with all of my existing black and navy.

For this year, I have just two things on my list! Like I said, my winter wardrobe is solid.

I also have a really soft spot for bags, and I can't seem to keep totally minimalist with these. I'm really eyeing the MZ Wallace and Dagne Dover crossbody bags...so we'll see.

Anything else I purchase, like a trendy top or two, will likely be from ThredUp or a local consignment shop. It is such a fun treasure hunt to find these, it's much better for the environment and there are many with tags or barely worn.

That's my Capsule Wardrobe update. What's on your fall shopping list?
