We have a few friends who host fabulous July 4th parties. They are lucky enough to live in close proximity to some city fireworks, and their houses provide a great setting for a party and viewing the show! Today I'll share a little bit of how they host a great gathering, and things we bring to supplement the celebrations.
Food is first!
Some great barbecue is critical for a July 4th gathering. A main course of brisket, ribs or pulled chicken for the adults, and hot dogs for the kids is a win! Mac & cheese and beans are excellent sides for everyone. We usually bring along a pasta salad--this couscous, mozzarella and tomato is a favorite. Fruit salad rounds out the menu nicely.
BYOB + something fun.
It can be cost-prohibitive to provide drinks for everyone, not to mention how challenging it is to have the variety that everyone prefers. I highly recommend everyone BYOB, while the host provides one fun drink (spiked or not) for everyone to try.
Party Fun!
It's fun to have snappers or snakes for the kids before it gets dark (or bubbles for littles). We always pick up glow sticks for the nighttime entertainment, and even the big kids love them! A backyard swim or some wiffle ball is fun for kids and adults, especially with a good summer soundtrack playing in the background.
Have a "blast!"
