Tuesday Morning Tidy: Kids Birthday Parties 1,2,3

Where to start? Your child has a birthday coming up, and you'd like to invite a few friends or classmates to join them in a celebration. There are a few things to consider:

  1. Size: Big group, family or close friends?

  2. Location: In home, or rent a space?

  3. Theme!

Size: Big groups seem most typical when children are preschool or primary grades. Kids invite their entire class, and no one is excluded. The party may need to appeal to boys and girls with a variety of interests! These are almost always limited to two hour events, and party favors are common. Many celebrate just with family when children are young, and that may be as simple as a gathering with pizzas and cake. As kids get older, smaller groups of close friends become the norm. A sleepover or special outing can be managed with no more than a half dozen close friends.

Location: Will you host the party in a venue or in your home? With larger groups, venues can eliminate challenges with space, noise and clean up. Here are some ideas to consider:

  • kids gym, climbing or trampoline park

  • local municipal center with a playground and private room

  • swimming pool, equipped with a lifeguard

  • skating rink

  • bowling alley

If you decide to have friends over to your home, I highly recommend having an activity to keep them from running wild! Here are a few ideas to focus all of that youthful energy!

  • movie

  • sprinklers or games

  • craft project

Theme: Once you determine the party size and venue, you can choose a theme! For my kids (and me), this has been the most fun! There are lots of ideas on Amazon and Target to get you started, and Pinterest has always been great for me to supplement those themes with cake, craft and favor ideas that coordinate! To keep budget in mind, I love checking out Etsy cupcake picks and easy DIY photo booth ideas as well. Here are a few fun ideas to get you started.
