Each year in the late summer or early fall I like to purchase new home accents and decor to enhance our home. This year I've focused on our primary bedroom as it's the one space I haven't spent much money or time decorating since moving in more than two years ago. Prior to this recent refresh, the room was mostly neutral tones with very few pops of color. This summer I decided I wanted to enjoy the space, and to fully appreciate it, I knew a makeover was in order.
First, let me back up a bit. These enhancements began in June with new Roman shades in our bathroom. We enjoy beautiful natural light in this space so I chose a fabric that offered some colors while also privacy. I found these beautiful custom Roman shades on Etsy!
We live in a historic home that's more than 100 years old. As such, our bedroom is not directly attached to our bathroom — you have to travel through our closet — but it's all very close together. Due to this floorplan, I felt like I could use a different color palette for our bedroom. When choosing colors for this space, I was inspired by a turquoise glass vase and artwork on our bedroom's fireplace mantel.
Our duvet and the walls are cool gray, therefore, for the windows, I chose greige curtins to replace the deep brownish/green velvet ones.
For the new splashes of color to match the existing colors, I chose:
Euro pillow shames in pink
a round pillow
To tie together the grays and bright colors, I chose this area rug and I love it!
I'm still looking for a fabric bench and/or chair for the room. If I decide to add a chair, I will more than likely add a small accent table and lamp. Once the room is complete, I will share pics! Part II and photos are forthcoming...
