Starting in the fall, I embrace all the hygge (more here) and enjoy being at home with my family. I cook heartier food and snuggle up with blankets by the fire.
One thing that I especially love this time of year is all the extra lighting in the evening. I was an immediate fan of battery-operated candles, and they've come a long way. I love the occasional scented candle, but I try to keep anything with a flame in the kitchen on a sturdy surface.
Flameless candles now come in every shape and size and illuminate rooms with handy timer features. I have them in my kitchen, on the fireplace and back patio, and sprinkled on bookshelves.
You can clip these Pottery Barn flameless candles on a tree or other greenery, and they operate via remote.
Keeping track of all those remote controls can be a nuisance, but these tapers are battery operated and turn on by twisting. They'd look great in some brass or ceramic candle holders.
Most of what I use are pillar candles in a lantern or on a base of some kind, and they operate without a remote on a 5-hour timer. But this set features an 8-hour timer! That's great for this time of year when it seems to get dark in the middle of the afternoon. I also like that the flame is well below the rim, so it appears a little more realistic.
If you already have seasonal lanterns or votive holders, this 12-pack of votives comes in a variety of colors and the price is right!
